Personal

My wife, Mary Ellen, and I have been married for 36 years and we have two children: Michael (35) and Carolyn (32). While I'm not teaching mathematics, I like to occupy my time either reading (mostly theology, philosophy, history), communicating with my family and friends on Facebook, or hiking (I've hiked across the Grand Canyon 10 times). My favorite "hiking partner" is my youngest sister, Coleen. She and I have hiked across the Canyon 4-5 times (and we hope to do so again in May 2021). My daughter and I have also hiked across the Canyon twice. A rim-to-rim hike across the Grand Canyon is about 23.9 miles, if you use the Bright Angel Trail, and it takes about 11 hrs to complete the hike. Although it takes me 4-5 months to physically prepare for such a hike, it is an incredible experience! Definitely, a "bucket list" item!
